Obituary of Robert M. Nethaway
Mr. Robert M. Nethaway Sr., 69, of Center St., Fultonville, NY passed away Sunday March 9, 2008 at his home with his family at his side.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on May 1, 1938 a son of Lawrence Luke and Eileen Nethaway. He was a lifelong Amsterdam area resident and was a 1956 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. He moved to Fultonville, NY in 1984.
Mr. Nethaway served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960 serving aboard the U.S.S. Cambria APA 36. He worked for many years at Longview Fibre Company in Amsterdam as a Truck Driver and Tractor Trailer Instructor retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Teamsters Local #294 of Utica, NY. He was also a member of the Tribes Hill Fish and Game Club and was a gun hobbyist. Mr. Nethaway was of the Roman Catholic Faith. He was a 31 year member of the John J. Wyszomirski American Legion Post #701 in Amsterdam.
He married Karen Baugartel Nethaway on March 26, 1966. In addition to his wife survivors include two sons, Robert M. Nethaway Jr. Deanne of Kathleen, Georgia and Thomas L. Nethaway Nicola of Hagaman, NY. Three daughters, Tina M. Welke of Warner Robins, Georgia, Tanya M. Canale Kevin of Amsterdam, NY and Stacy L. Nethaway of Fultonville, NY. Twelve grandchildren, Katrina, Kyle, Caleb, Tyler, Cameron, Torin, Aubrey, Zachary, Alexis, Nicolas, Angelo and Alona. One sister, Mary Ann Vidulich Nicholas of Amsterdam. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday March 12, 2008 at 6:00P.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Father Victor Polito presiding. Cremation took place in Vale Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday March 12, 2008 from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in Robert's memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave, Gloversville, NY 12078. Members of the American Legion Post #701 will meet on Wednesday evening at 5:30P.M. at the funeral home. Military honors will also take place following the funeral service by the U.S. Naval Honor Guard.
