Obituary of Mildred R. Edel

Mrs. Mildred R. Edel, age 102, of Gloversville, died Thursday morning, January 26, 2017 at the Fulton Center, Gloversville, where she had resided the past 7-1/2 years. She was born May 5, 1914 in Mayfield, the daughter of the late Harvey and Gertie Blowers Newton. She was employed as a glove maker by Mayfield Glove Company. Mildred was an avid quilter and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and traveling with her senior friends. She also enjoyed attending horse shows and riding snow machines. She was a member of Mayfield Central Presbyterian Church, Mayfield Historical Society and Bannertown Senior Citizens Club. Mildred is survived by four children: Russell Goodemote (Sadye) and Gene Goodemote (Carolyn) and Alice Goodemote, all of Gloversville and Katherine Russell (Harry) of Wells; 16 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husbands Leon Goodemote, Ralph Fagant and Lawrence Edel; a son, Robert Goodemote; a brother, John Newton; a sister, Eileen Perham and three grandchildren. The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 5 pm Saturday, January 28th at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville where a Funeral Service will follow at 5 pm with the Rev. Linda Martin officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at Mayfield Union Rural Cemetery.
