Obituary of Harvey F. Ropan
Harvey F. Ropan, age 80, of Gloversville, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
He was born October 21, 1927 in Cleveland, OH, the son of the late Frank and Mildred Gajsek Ropan. He moved to this area when he was five years old. He graduated from Mayfield High School where he was an avid athlete and attended both Rutgers and Syracuse Universities. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a Certified Public Accountant for forty years. He began his career on Fulton Street in Gloversville, later moving to Johnstown and retiring in the early 1990's.
Earlier in life, Harvey was a member of local men's softball teams. He was a past president of the Kiwanis Club, a member of both the Concordia Club and Johnstown Moose Club. Harvey was also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He also enjoyed golfing. Harvey was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Gloversville.
He was married October 21, 1950 to June Zimmerman Ropan who survives.
In addition to his wife, of Gloversville, survivors include two daughters, Deborah Chris Johnson of Johnstown and Michele William Datz of Ephratah; a sister, Ann Renda of Arizona; 2 grandchildren: Christina Johnson and Chad Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville with the Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak officiating. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 10am to 11am prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Harvey's memory to a charity of one's choice.
