Obituary of Thomas S. Van Schaffel

Thomas S. Van Schaffel, age 76, of Gloversville, died Monday morning, January 30, 2017 at the Fulton Center, Gloversville. He was born September 25, 1940 in Clifton Springs, NY, the son of the late Lewis and Virginia Condit Van Schaffel. He was employed by Firestone Stores of Gloversville, Lee Dying Corp. and by various leather finishers in the area. Tom was an avid bowler and enjoyed driving his classic cars and reading western books. He is survived by two daughters, Jackie Lawson of Dayton, TN and Julie Grant of Gloversville; three sisters, Sandra Lyons of Gloversville, Rachel Lyon of Utica and Barbara Williams of Mayfield; three grandchildren, Tasha Coe-Cubbege, Derek Simonds and Catherine Grant; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his parents and by his son, Steven Van Schaffel and by a daughter, Stacy Van Schaffel. At Tom's request there will be no visitation or service. Interment will take place in the spring at Mayfield Union Rural Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
