Obituary of Gertrude Schreiber
Gertrude Schreiber, 91, formerly of Mountainview Avenue, Mayfield, passed away Friday evening at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility where she had resided for the past two years.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 20, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Sarah Oblonsky Foster.
She received her education there and later, began her long career as a legal secretary in New York City, at several prestigious law firms. Her sharp wit and intelligence made her a natural for her position. Gertrude kept these attributes for her entire life. Upon her retirement, she and her husband moved to Essex, New York. They enjoyed their life there, restoring the historical home where they made their residence.
Her husband David Schreiber, whom she married in 1951, predeceased her in 1997. She moved to Mayfield five years ago to be near her family and was of the Jewish faith.
Her loving family includes her brother, Harold "Hal" Foster and his wife Essie of Manhattan; nieces and nephews including locally, Sara and Michael McDarby of Mayfield; and Stacey, Tammy, Michael and Jody Foster, Jeffrey Sobel and the late Rafi Foster.
A service will take place this morning at 9:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Rabbi Geoffrey Claussen officiating. Interment is in Beth Israel Cemetery, Plattsburgh. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wilkinson Activities Center, in care of the funeral home office.
