Obituary of Eldon W. Montanye

Mr. Eldon W. "Tuffy" Montanye, age 76 of the Town of Mayfield, died Monday, April 14, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, following a short illness. He was born April 26, 1931 in Mayfield, one of twelve children to the late Charles and Anna Buthfer Montanye. He was employed at General Electric Company for a total of over 44 years at their Schenectady, New York and Shelbyville, Indiana plants. He retired as Quality Control Specialist. Tuffy was a former member of the Concordia Club in Gloversville. He loved to watch basketball games and Boston Red Sox Baseball games. He was also an avid golfer, and he was proud of scoring a "Hole-in-One" several years ago. He was the devoted spouse of his wife of nearly 55 years, Madge M. Ormill Montanye who survives. He was the loving father of his sons Eric W. Montanye Pam of Rexford and Todd W. Montanye Emily of Mayfield. Tuffy was the cherished grandfather of Craig W. Montanye, Allison E. Montanye, Derek W. Montanye and Kelly N. Montanye. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his eleven brothers and sisters, Sanford Montanye, Ralph Montanye, Arthur Montanye, Howard Montanye, Donald Montanye, Walter Montanye, Ruth Washburn, Grace Hahn, Edith Bergmann, Lillian Barnes and Annamae Tomlinson. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Dr. R. W. Williams officiating. Interment will take place at Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd; Loudonville, NY 12211.
