Obituary of Robert Lansing
Robert Lansing Sr., 87, former resident of Vrooman Avenue, passed away Sunday evening at the St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. He was a resident for the past year at the River Ridge Living Center.
Born October 24, 1920, in Schoharie, NY and he was the son of the late Charles and Florence Earls Lansing. He was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and attended local schools.
Robert was a US Army Air Force Veteran of WW II and served at the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He was employed by American Locomotive in Scotia, General Electric of Schenectady and was last employed by Collette Manufacturing in Amsterdam until retiring in 1968 due to ill health.
On September 10, 1942, he married the former Grace Birch who passed away November 13, 2004.
Survivors include a son Bob Lansing Jr. and his wife Sandy of Amsterdam; a daughter Karen Rogers of Hagaman; a brother Gorden Lansing of Amsterdam; two sisters Dorothy Green and Eliza Wells both of Fort Johnson; two grandchildren Steven Rogers and his wife Pamela of Rotterdam and Thomas Rogers and his wife Wendy of Rotterdam; three great grandchildren Morgan Grace Rogers, Kiera Jean Rogers and Matthew Bruce Rogers; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A Candle Legacy Ceremony will be held on Thursday evening at 7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Burial of Robert's cremated remains will take place in Fairview Cemetery with full Military Honors.
