Marion R. Gryscavage, 84, of Church Street, Amsterdam, passed away Tuesday May 27, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Born in Amsterdam on October 30, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Christine Lubus Hage. Marion was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam, and she attended St. Mary's Institute. On July 4, 1948, she was united in marriage at St. Mary's Church to her devoted husband Stanley, who passed away on December 12, 2005. Prior to her marriage, she was employed at Collette's General Electric, Sheepskin Lining Company, and Bigelow Sanford Carpet Mills. Some years later, she worked as a crossing guard for The Amsterdam School District and at Consolidated Novelty Company.
Marion was a volunteer in the school cafeteria when her children attended St. Mary's Institute. She also was a past Commander and member of the Amsterdam VFW Post 55 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. She enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking and baking for them, and she especially liked preparing all kinds of Lebanese dishes. Prior to the Fall of 1998 Marion And Stanley were regular mall walkers, and they enjoyed a camaraderie with several other walkers. Her family was very proud of her when, in 1979, she earned her GED. This accomplishment showed a determination and strong will that would help her through her various hospital stays and rehabs years later.
