Obituary of Dennis L. O'Connor

Dennis L. O'Connor, 56, of Lipe Lane, Fort Plain, NY passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 22, 2008. Born on March 26, 1952 in Little Falls he was the son of the late Patrick and Dorothy Wagner O'Connor. A lifelong area resident, Dennis was a graduate of Canajoharie High School. At the age of 18 he began a career as a car enthusiast that would span his entire life. Working for various companies in the area, Dennis became known as the "Go to Guy" when it came to fixing a vehicle. From 1978 until 1983 he worked for Kar Kare Tire. Later in that year, he was instrumental in starting K Auto Parts in Fort Plain. In 1997 the business was sold to Parts Plus, and Dennis continued working for them, and at the time of his death was the Assistant Manager. Dennis was a free spirit who loved life, and kept things simple. He loved working on cars going to race's and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. In the mid 80's he served on the pit crew for David Lape's race car. He also attended many continuing education opportunities that were offered, trying to learn anything he could about vehicles. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and customers. Survivors include, his extended family, Karol and Bob Grimm of Fort Plain; his siblings, Patrick O'Connor of Nelliston and Susan Fox of Canajoharie; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 11 o'clock at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
