Obituary of Nicholas J. Colangelo
Nicholas J. Colangelo, 55, of Ballston Ave, Saratoga Springs, NY died unexpectedly Friday June 27, 2008 at Saratoga Hospital. He has resided in Saratoga Springs for the past 28 years.
Born in Monteleone, Province of Foggia, Italy on September 3, 1952 a son of Rocco and Michela Lalla Colangelo. Nicholas came to the United States on December 5, 1956. He attended St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam and was a 1972 Graduate of the former Bishop Scully High School. He later received his B.S. Degree from Siena College in 1976.
Nicholas worked as an accountant for over 27 years for the New York State Division of Family Services in Albany retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #246 in Saratoga. He volunteered for the meals on wheels program for the Saratoga County Office for the Aging, the Saratoga Soup Kitchen and also volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Mr. Colangelo raced in the 60 Mile Bicycle run for M.S. in Vermont for over 20 years raising thousands of dollars each year. He enjoyed playing tennis, cross country skiing and was an avid reader. Nicholas was a loyal N.Y. Jets and N.Y. Yankees Fan.
He is survived by his parents Rocco and Michela Colangelo of Amsterdam, NY. His brothers and sisters; Celeste Furchak of Ballston Lake, NY, Nancy Joseph D'Ambrosio of Perth, NY, Paul Colangelo of Amsterdam, Jane Michael Hughes of Amsterdam and Raquel Colangelo of Amsterdam. Nieces and nephews; Nicholas Furchak; Armand, Anthony Jessica and Joey D'Ambrosio; Roxanne and Matthew Colangelo; David, Daniel and Michael Hughes; Michela, Maria Lucia and Joey Mosso. Great niece, Gianna D'Ambrosio. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday July 1, 2008 at 8:30AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30AM at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Main St., Amsterdam. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday June 30, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Hospital Nursing Scholarship Fund, 427 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
