Friend of many years, fellow spinner, knitter, lover of books & research, I will sorely miss Gene.
Now she will be a master weaver of finer things. I will always see her spirit at Ft Knock. She will be busy organizing and sharing her joy in her new life.
She truly celebrated life and will inspire me to do likewise.
Love and joy for her life, Teresa :-

Gene, Thanks for the memories - my baby scrapbook, the excitement of weaving long before I could reach the peddles, shoveling coal for the furnace, rides in the wheelbarrow, visits to your apt. in Troy - and of course for reading x100 at least "How Michael Missed the Train". And, after I moved away, for caring enough to stay in touch and always making me feel special! Love but no hugs!, Nancy

Gene- you have been a part of our family since i can remember-our trips to gloversville always involved a trip to Gene's for the day-playing in the backyard-taking pictures-by the way thanks for all the slides you gave us-so many pictures we never would have had if not for you taking them.
And thanks to Pat and Sonny for all you did for Gene- our love janet

I have known Gene all of my life and have so many fond memories of her and all of our fun times together. I will carry these memories with me for the rest of my life. She was a great teacher, a great historian, a great weaver, a great friend. I will miss my trips to Gloversville and all of our "covered bridge hunting" trips to Vermont so long ago. What a great loss for so many people, but most of all I think for Pat, Sonny and Liebchen. I will miss you Gene! Love, Biddy

Gene- Sonny, Myself, Chloe and Liebchen miss you so much. You will be in our heart and minds forever. We certainly had a true friendship myself for 73 years and Sonny for 53 years . You were a very special lady and not having you next door to us anymore is very difficult but we will have our memories for as long as we live and will be with you again when we meet in the Lord's house. Love you forever

My sincere condolences to the Valk Family. Although I only knew Gene in her later years last 10 or so, I greatly admired her for her vast weaving knowledge and keeping to her convictions. Too bad there are not more people who will stand up vocally for what they believe. Cheers to Gene! You are loved by many and will be greatly missed.

I was in the class of 1963 - she paid my dues so I could get my library letter. Of course she did it quietly and without my knowing until I left no choice but for her to tell me. I have tried to follow her example through my life and pay back when possible without people knowing where it came from. She is a very special spirit and I am sure will help guide you through your lives. I will never forget her as I am sure I am not alone. God be with you.
