Obituary of Howard E. Hitchcock
Mr. Howard E. Hitchcock, 83, of State Hwy 30A, Fultonville, NY passed away unexpectedly Monday evening July 7, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on September 8, 1924 a son of the late Floyd and Anna Lohmyer Hitchcock Sr. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools.
Mr. Hitchcock served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Sergeant with Company C 345th Engineers Corps.
After the war Mr. Hitchcock work for over 36 years at the former Glen-Mohawk Dairy in Fultonville. He later worked for Green Thumb and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at the Hale Creek Field Station in Gloversville until his retirement. He was a member of the Glen Reformed Church and was a life member of the Town of Glen Volunteer Fire Department.
He married Doris Eileen Carpenter Hitchcock on October 19, 1946. She passed away on March 11, 2006.
Survivors include, one son, Mark Hitchcock Robin Tomlinson of Gloversville, NY. Three daughters, Luella Hitchcock Daniel Larin Providence, NY, Carolyn Emerson of Campton, N.H. and Rhoda EspinozaMarty Espinoza of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Two brothers, Wilson Hitchcock of Tennessee and Raymond Hitchcock of Burnt Hills, NY. One sister, Betty Ann Bramer of Minaville, NY. 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Mr. Hitchcock was predeceased by one brother, Floyd Hitchcock Jr. of Ft. Hunter, NY and one sister, Josephine Huggins of Esperence, NY.
Funeral services will be held on Friday July 11, 2008 at 11:00A.M. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, NY with Rev. Stacey Midge presiding. Interment will be in Maple Ave Cemetery in Fultonville with full military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday July 10th, 2008 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
