Obituary of Douglas A. Phelps

Douglas A. Phelps, 66, of Currytown Road, Sprakers, died Thursday, July 17, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Born on February 3, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky he was the son of the late Paul and Helen Wroe Phelps. Doug enlisted with the United States Army in 1960. He served proudly until his discharge in 1963. In 1988 he moved to Sprakers. He was employed as the Cast House Supervisor, for the Keymark Corp. in Fonda. Doug was an avid NASCAR fan and loved riding ATV's. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping and camping. Above all he loved his family, especially his grandchildren. His loving family includes, his wife, Frances Phelps, whom he married on October 11, 1961; two daughters, Kris Smith and her husband Randy of Roxboro, North Carolina and Sherry Phelps of Sprakers; one son, Steve Phelps and his wife Linda of Oxford, NC; one sister, Paula Peter and her husband Albert of Tell City, Indiana; three grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Service of Remembrance will take place on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 3 o'clock at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville. Calling hours will be held from 1 until 3, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to G.A.V.A.C., P.O. Box 11, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
