Obituary of Richard J. Squillace
Richard J. "Squeak" Squillace, 73, of Della Valle Drive, Amsterdam, passed away peacefully Thursday morning at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville.
Born in Amsterdam where he lived his entire life, he was the son of the late Joseph and Violet Depa Squillace. A 1952 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, he played baseball with the Amsterdam Textiles Team in his early years. He later began a long career with the Amsterdam Printing And Litho Co. where he worked for thirty five years. He retired as a rural mail carrier for the US Postal System. Richard loved to work with youth, and was involved as a coach for the Amsterdam Little Giants for over twenty five years, and also coached the Bishop Scully Football Team and the Amsterdam Babe Ruth League. An avid hunter and fisherman, his true passion in these last years were his beloved grandchildren, and family , and he spent as much time as possible with them.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, and it was there that on May 22, 1960 he was united in marriage to the former Ann Cotugno.
In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves his children; Cheryl A. John Stoll of Guilderland, Lori Ann Tom Kotarski of Colonie, and Richard A. Shelley Squillace of Woodstock, Ga.; grandchildren; Anthony age 10 & Joseph age 3 1/2 Kotarski, and Sarah age 5 & Gabriel age 4 Squillace; nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, George Squillace.
A prayer services will take place Monday morning at 10:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church. Fr. Pascal A. Iannotti celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
