Obituary of William Piarno
William "Willie" Piarno passed away Sunday, August 10, 2008 at the Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown. He was born January 22, 1917 in Amsterdam, NY, the son of the late Joseph and Theresa Siriani Piarno. He was educated in Amsterdam Schools. Willie served his country during WWII in the United States Army.
Mr. Piarno operated the Bleeker Street Body and Fender Works from 1940 to 1954. He was employed by the Gloversville Enlarged School District for twenty-eight years as the Foreman of Buildings and Grounds until his retirement in 1986.
He was a former member of the VFW of Gloversville and was a lifetime member of the Concordia Club. He was also an avid Yankees fan.
He was married to Olive Knapp on June 5, 1943; she predeceased him on December 10, 1992.
Survivors include his beloved daughter, Marilyn Stanzel of Gloversville and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Piarno was predeceased by two brothers: James and Rudy and two sisters: Mary and Vera.
A funeral service will take place on Thursday, August 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville with the Reverends Alan and Barbara Witter presiding. Interment will take place at Union Rural Cemetery in Mayfield. Family and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Wednesday, August 13 from 3 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Willie's memory to the Wells Nursing Home Activities Dept., 201 W. Madison Avenue, Johnstown 12095 or to First Free Methodist Church, 1200 State Highway 122, Gloversville, NY 12078.
