Obituary of Douglas J. Thompson
Mr. Douglas J. Thompson, age 56 of Gloversville, died peacefully on Wednesday morning, August 27, 2008 at Mountain Valley Hospice, following a long illness.
He was born on June 13, 1952 in Gloversville, a son of the late Everett and Beulah Brownell Thompson. He first worked at Johnstown Knitting Mill for ten years, then at Garfall Coat factory in Johnstown. He later was employed for seven years as a driver for Lexington Center until his illness.
Doug enjoyed fishing and playing his guitar.
Survivors include eight brothers and sisters: William C. Thompson Loretta of Gloversville, Deborah Raykoske Barry of Chandler, AZ; Pamela Greenough Steve of Johnstown, Nancy Ruck of Gloversville, Jean Eaton of Tenessee, Donna M. Thompson of Saratoga Springs, Robert E. Thompson Lynn of Caroga Lake and Kim Spinks Michael of Gloversville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Richard E. Thompson and Russell C. Thompson.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. R. W. Williams officiating. Cremation will follow at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
