Obituary of Dorothea F. Maxon
Mrs. Dorothea F. Maxon, age 94, formerly of Gloversville, died Thursday evening, August 28, 2008 at Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown, where she had resided the past two years.
She was born on February 14, 1914 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Truman and Grace Van Dellan Hart. Dorothea was employed as a seamstress at the former Hilts & Willard Glove Company in Gloversville for more than 48 years.
Mrs. Maxon was a member of the Gloversville Moose Auxiliary and the Ida McGinness Senior Citizens Club. She enjoyed gardening and making clothing following her retirement.
She was married on May 1, 1936 to Arthur F. Maxon who died May 20, 2000. Survivors include three children, Barbara G. Travis and William H. Maxon Carolyn of Gloversville and Sandra Niver David of Buffalo; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Wilson.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. R. W. Williams officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial ontributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
