Obituary of John J. Weaver
Mr. John J. Weaver, 85, formerly of Perth, New York and a resident of Mt. Loretto Nursing Home in Amsterdam, died Monday, September 1, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on January 11, 1923 he was a son of Arthur G. and Lillian P. Waldron Weaver. He was a lifelong Amsterdam and Perth area resident and attended local schools.
Mr. Weaver was a Marine Corps Veteran of World War II serving as a Tech Sergeant and Navigator. He was very proud of his Marine service and participated in the occupation of China from Feb to July in 1946. After his service he worked for many years at the General Electric Co. in Schenectady as a toolmaker until his retirement in 1973. He loved hunting and fishing and was generous to many organizations. He was a loving and dedicated husband to his wife Virginia Strain Weaver. She passed away in 1985.
Survivors include two sons, Glenn A. Weaver Agnes of Dallas, Texas and Gary C. Patricia Weaver of Perth, NY; one sister, Kay Stanton of Ft. Edward, NY; two grandchildren, Jay Weaver Gabrielle and Eric Weaver Kristina of Perth, NY and five great-grandchildren, Kayla, Joshua, Dominick, Kara and Jadon. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday Today September 3, 2008 at 10:00A.M. at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church, Pawling Street, Hagaman, with Father Martin DeRose as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY with full military honors. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
