Obituary of Shirley Ann Ecker

Shirley Ann Ecker, 75, of Johnstown, died Wednesday September 10, 2008 at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville. She was born in Broadalbin on October 8, 1932 the daughter of Howard and Florence Demarest. Shirley was married to Donald A. Ecker on February 24, 1951. They shared and enjoyed fifty-four years together until he passed away on January 18, 2005. Shirley graduated from Gloversville High School in 1951. She was the head housekeeper at the former Johnstown Hotel. She was a former life-member of the Johnstown PTA. She was a member of the Johnstown Reformed Church and belonged to the Ladies Calvary Class. Shirley enjoyed bowling and writing poetry. The joy of her life was her husband and their three children. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Ruzycky and her husband Larry of Broadalbin; two sons: Bradley J. Ecker of Voorheesville, NY and Donald A. Ecker and his wife Marie of Scotia and three grandchildren: Deena Ecker, Krista Peterson and Jeremy Ecker. Calling hours will be Friday, September 12 from 10am to 12noon at the Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main Street, Broadalbin. A funeral service will follow at 12noon with Bryan Dykema, pastor of the Johnstown Reformed Church officiating. Burial will follow in Ferndale Cemetery in Johnstown.
