Obituary of Charles E. Gillis
Charles "Chuck" E. Gillis, Sr., 75, of East Lykers Road, passed away Saturday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital with his loving family at his side.
Born August 14, 1933 in Amsterdam, New York he was the son of the late Edgar V. and Bessie Seeley Gillis. He lived most of his life in Amsterdam until moving to Sprakers eight years ago. Chuck was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School and he also attended University of Southern California for training as a U.S. Air-force mechanic.
Chuck was a U.S. Air-Force Veteran of the Korean War where he served with the 6516th Flight Line Maintenance Squadron.
He was employed by General Electric Company in Schenectady for 25 years in the Micro Tube Department until retiring in 1993.
Chuck was a former member of the AMVETS and was a former coach for the AMVETS baseball team. He was also a former Scout Master for Troop 23 at Trinity Reformed Church. He was a member and past president of the Iroquois Seniors and a member of the Christian Church at the Charleston 4 Corners in Sprakers.
Chuck was an avid Yankees and NY Giants fan.
On September 18, 1955 he married the former Joyce Bellows.
Besides his wife Chuck is survived by two sons, Clifford F. Gillis Carmella and Charles E. Gillis Jr. Doreen all of Amsterdam; two daughters, Laura A. Kauhane John of Honolulu, Hawaii and Sharon E. LaPort Rob of Sprakers; a brother, Robert P. Gillis of Tribes Hill; two sisters, Betty Cole of Gloversville and Delores Fitzdam of Tribes Hill; twelve grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Chuck was also predeceased by a brother Edward G. Gillis and a sister Marjorie J. Langdon.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at 11:00 AM at the Christian Church at Charleston 4 Corners in Sprakers with the Rev. Bret Popp officiating. Cremation will take place at Vale Crematory in Schenectady. A calling hour will be held on Thursday from 10 to 11 AM at the Church.
Memorial contributions may be made in Chuck's memory to the Christian church at the Charleston 4 Corners, Sprakers, NY 12166.
