Obituary of Mary Elaine Perkins
M. Elaine Perkins, 85, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at the Wilkinson Residential Healthcare Facility in Amsterdam following a long illness.
Elaine was born at the family home on Saratoga Ave. in Broadalbin on June 25, 1923 the daughter of Lewis H. and Millicent Street Cornell. She was educated in the Broadalbin school system, graduating in 1942. Elaine then attended the Amsterdam School of Commerce, graduating in 1943.
Following graduation she obtained employment in the Claim Dept. of Mohawk Carpet Mills. Later she transferred to the Personnel Dept. and upon retirement in 1981, she was the Secretary to the Controller of Mohasco Corporation.
On August 28, 1948 Elaine was united in marriage to Roger Elwin Perkins, the son of Elwin Perkins and Nellie Shepard Perkins. They resided in Gloversville for four years before returning to Broadalbin for the remainder of their lives. Roger died on June 24, 1992. They had no children.
Elaine enjoyed square dancing, traveling, reading and family gatherings. She taught Sunday School at the Broadalbin United Methodist Church for 47 years, she was a member for 70 years.
Other activities included membership in the Robert Lee Walsh Post American Legion Auxiliary for nearly 70 years, a member of the Broadalbin Historical Society and she was a volunteer at the Wilkinson Book Station.
Elaine is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Sharon Cornell of Broadalbin and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Friday, September 19th from 11am to 12:30pm at the Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 West Main Street, Broadalbin. A funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home at 12:30 with Pastor Bill Delia of the Broadalbin United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will follow on the family plot in the Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery.
