Obituary of Vaughn J. Zemken

Vaughn J. Zemken, 51, of Riverview Drive, Niskayuna passed away Tuesday at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany after a long illness. Born December 3, 1956 in Amsterdam, NY. He was the son of Josephine Crockett Zemken and the late Helmet Zemken. He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School Class of 1974. Vaughn was first employed by Continental Mills in Gloversville, a hardware finisher for Carriage House in Sprakers and last he worked as a transporter for Budget Car Rental Company at the Albany Airport and retired in 1998 due to ill health. He was a former parishioner of St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church in Niskayuna and is a parishioner of the Church of St. Ambrose in Latham. He was a former member of the Rural Grove Fire Department and is a member of the NRA and the Watervliet Fish and Game Club. He loved fishing and hunting and loved singing country western for various bands in the area. He loved history and anything pertaining to submarine warfare and very knowledgeable regarding the Titanic. Survivors include his mother, Josephine Zemken Mulligan and step-father Paul Mulligan of Niskayuna. His grandmother; Jeannette Crockett of Gloversville; three brothers; Pete Zemken of Johnstown, Ron Zemken of Amsterdam and John Zemken and Cynthia of Latham; a sister, Rachael Zemken of Niskayuna and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a great nephew also survive. Vaughn was predeceased by a brother Dennis Zemken who passed away in 1976. A private graveside memorial service will be held on Friday the 19th at 1:30 pm, for family and close friends, at Maple Avenue Cemetery in Fultonville. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Vaughn's memory to the American Diabetes Association, 7 Washington Square, Albany, NY 12205. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY.
