Obituary of Marion Charlotte Argotsinger

Miss Marion Charlotte Argotsinger of Broadalbin passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 after a shot illness at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville, NY. She was born on September 22, 1916 to Burton and Addie Griffis Argotsinger in the Town of Mayfield. She was a graduate of Broadalbin High School and the Gloversville Business School. She worked as a bookkeeper for Fellspar Company, Broadalbin Knitting Mill, Fulton County Social Services, IGA Market and retired from Agway of Johnstown in 1978. Marion was devoted to her church, the First Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin, which she joined in 1931 making her one of the oldest members of the church. In 1941, Marion and ten other women formed the SYL Senior Young Ladies Class, as active and devoted group of the church for over 60 years. Marion remained actively involved with SYL, Memorial Fund Committee and other church activities all her life. She is survived by her two sisters: Thelma Argotsinger of Broadalbin and Edna Tryanna Richard of Amsterdam; her two brothers: Crawford Argotsinger and Burlin Argotsinger Lillian/Leona of Gloversville. She was predeceased by her brother Clinton Argotsinger and her three sisters-in-law: Doris, Thelma F. and Myra Argotsinger. Marion was the caring aunt of: Joan Williams of Hobe Sound, FL; Carolyn Goodemote, Katherine Sieg, Janice Moore, Richard Argotsinger, Mary Jo Argotsinger and Gary Argotsinger of Gloversville, Nancy Noonan of Tribes Hill, James Argotsinger of Berkley, CA and William Argotsinger of Clifton Park. She was predeceased by her nephew Mark Argotsinger. She had 24 grand nieces and nephews and 25 great-grand nieces and nephews, and several cousins. Marion had an amazing memory and was quick to recall names and places. She took great interest in the whereabouts of her extended family and often got out a map and circled the city or the country where they were located. She enjoyed watching Jeopardy and was always very interested in the political scene and current events. She loved bird watching and gardening. She caned chairs, refinished furniture, made baskets, made ceramics and was an avid knitter. Every new baby in the family received a hand knitted blanket from Aunt Marion. Countless sweaters, scarves and mittens were made by Marion for family, herself and for church bazaars. The family will receive relatives and friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin, where a memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Linda Martin officiating. Interment has taken place at Broadalbin Mayfield Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions may be made in Marion's memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin, 54 W.
