Obituary of Giovanni L. Carbone
Giovanni "John" L. Carbone, 70, of Henrietta St., passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning September 21, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
Born in Alvignanello, Caserta, Italy on December 14, 1937. He was the son of Filippo and Rosaria Izzo Carbone. He attended school in Italy and was a graduate of Telese High School. Mr. Carbone served as a sergeant in the Italian Armed Forces before coming to the United States and Amsterdam, NY in 1963. He worked for over 37 years at Adirondack Knitting Mill in Amsterdam retiring in 1996.
He was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. He was also a member of the Sons of Italy and the Port Jackson Bocce Club. John enjoyed working in the garden and around his home. He enjoyed being with his family, especially his wife, children and beloved grandchildren.
He married Maria Antoinette Celella Carbone on June 6, 1965. In addition to his loving wife survivor's include three sons, Philip J. Carbone Kathy of Amsterdam, Carmen M. Carbone Damaris of Tribes Hill, NY and Anthony Carbone Kristen of Amsterdam. Three sisters, Rosa DiSandro of Amsterdam, Angie DiMatteo Richard of Amsterdam and Philomena Iorio of Amsterdam. Seven grandchildren, Michael, Christopher and Nicolas Carbone of Amsterdam, Gianna and Caris Carbone of Tribes Hill, John and Santino Carbone of Amsterdam. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. John was preceded in death by his parents Filippo and Rosaria Carbone.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 25, 2008 at 10:15A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15A.M. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Grove St. Amsterdam with Father Lawrence J. Decker as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday September 24, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
