Michael Marshall

Obituary of Michael D. Marshall

Michael D. Marshall, 67, of Jones Road passed away Saturday evening at Ellis Hospital. Born in Amsterdam on December 7, 1940, he was the son of the late Harold J. and Eleanor Hare Marshall. Mike grew up in Hagaman where he met and married the love of his life, the former Claudia L. Trommer on September 8, 1962. They were blessed with one son, Michael David both of whom survive him. Michael alsoleaves his two sisters, Marilyn John Civic of Broadalbin and Marjorie Stephen Burda of Hagaman; an uncle, Kenneth Marshall of Fort Johnson as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Greatly missing him are his two "girls", Maggie and Precious as are many others who were the recipients of his kindness. Mike was a longtime employee of the Town Of Amsterdam Highway Department, retiring in December of 2ooo. In January, 2001 he was appointed custodian at the Town Of Amsterdam Office Building. Here, Mike's artistic side really shown when it came to restoring the train and playground, grooming the grounds, planting and watering his beloved flowerbeds, or decorating the building and trees for the holidays. One of his favorite activities was teaching young children and helping them achieve their certificates in the Bow Hunting Safety Training Course that he, as a New York State Certified Bow Instructor, conducted. He was loved by all who were priviledged to take these courses. When persuaded to relax, Mike loved to camp and enjoy the fireplaces he lovingly rebuilt so many times on the edge of the Sacandaga River in Hope. He was also a former member of the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the American Heart Asso. in care of the funeral home, or to a charity of one's choice.
