Obituary of Col. James J. Martin US Army
Lt. Col. James J. Martin (US Army, retired) died peacefully at his home in Broadalbin on Tuesday morning, February 14, 2017. He was 77.
He was born May 3, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Joseph and Dorothy Middlemiss Martin. He attained a Master's Degree in Law Enforcement and Art and later served as a Logistics Specialist in the US Army for over 30 years including service in Vietnam. He was employed for over 20 years by the New York City Police Dept. as a detective for Internal Affairs and the Prosecutors Office.
Jim was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Knights of Columbus and VFW Post, all of Broadalbin, NYCPBA and the International and American Societies of Appraisers.
He is survived by his wife, Maryellen Gannon Martin; two children, Tracey Ann Ann Martin and Jay Martin and his wife Chelsey of Broadalbin; two grandchildren, James H. Martin and Hayley Marie Martin. He was predeceased by a sister, Jean Cinelli, and by his parents.
Jim cared more about others than he cared about himself and he will be missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 9 to 10:00AM, Tuesday, February 21 at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 West Main Street, Broadalbin. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:30AM Tuesday at St. Joseph's Church, Broadalbin, with the Rev. Jun Segura as celebrant.
Interment will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
