Obituary of Sophie T. Lewek

Mrs. Sophie T. Lewek, 91 years old, formerly of Chopin Parkway, died Sunday at Ellis Hospital. Mrs. Lewek was a graduate of Amsterdam High School and was a life long resident of the Amsterdam area. She had been employed as a weaver for the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Mills for many years. Mrs. Lewek was a Communicant of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. She loved the time spent with family, especially her grandchildren. In July of 1935 she married Max S. Lewek who died in 1981. Mrs. Lewek is survived by her son: David Lewek and his wife Kathy of Scotia, N.Y. and her daughter: Maxine Le May of Reston, VA., four grandchildren: Emily and Alexander Lewek, Michele Wilber and David Le May, and three great grandchildren: triplets Joshua, Nicholas and Elizabeth Le May. Funeral services will be held 8:45am Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed at 9:30am by a Funeral Mass at St. Stanislaus Church. Burial is in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 5 until 7:00pm at the funeral home.
