Obituary of Velma A. Bennett

Mrs. Velma A. Davis Bennett, age 76 of Gloversville passed away Monday October 20, 2008 at home with her family at her side. She was born on November 26, 1931 in Northville, New York and was one of five children to the late Leland and Augusta Ryan Davis. Velma loved to clean. She was always happiest while cleaning. She enjoyed watching Major League Baseball and later in her life, Nascar. She loved to collect Angels and snowmen. Most of all, she loved being with her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her companion of 40 years, George Beekman of Gloversville; a daughter, Andrea White John of Gloversville; a son Donald Bennett Karen of Gloversville; a stepdaughter Eunice Smith of Bleecker; a brother Michael Davis of Albany; four grandchildren Joe King and his wife Pamela, Tracie White, Donald C.P. Bennett, and Scott Bennett; two step grandchildren Adam & Shawn Smith: and two great grandchildren Anna King and Lila King. Velma was predeceased by her former husband Donald L. Bennett; two sisters Sandra Hanmer and Gwendolyn Snell; her brother Leland Davis Jr.; and a granddaughter Kelly Bennett. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday October 22. 2008 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday October 23, 2008 with the Rev. Dr. R. W. Williams officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Northville. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
