Obituary of Ruth L. Rosa
Ruth L. Ricci Rosa, 88, died on Thursday, October 23, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. After a serious fall several weeks ago and subsequent complications, Ruth chose to enter Mountain Valley Hospice on Monday morning.
She was a lifelong resident of Gloversville, the daughter of the late Carl Ricci and Helen Acker Ricci Broderick. Mrs. Rosa was a 1937 graduate of Gloversville High School. She enjoyed music and sang in a quartet for a local band during high school which performed on WGY radio before the days of television. She continued to sing in the Trinity Episcopal Church choir for many years.
Ruth was always centered on her family and worked part-time when her children were young. She worked on gloves and was a shipping clerk at the Perella Glove Company. Later she worked as a bookkeeper for Santella Insurance, Holley Heating and Warden Leathers before her retirement.
On August 31, 1940 she married her high school sweetheart, William K. Rosa and they enjoyed 66 years together. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, where she belonged to the social club. She played bridge throughout her life and enjoyed golf in her retirement. She and Bill enjoyed 20 winters in Florida and 30 summers at Caroga Lake where Bill had built a camp. Mrs. Rosa was a member of the Johnstown Moose and auxiliary member of the VFW and a former member of the Churchwomen United. She loved reading and doing the daily crossword puzzles and played a mean game of Scrabble. She was so proud of her family and enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with them, especially the babies.
Mrs. Rosa is survived by her two daughters, Susan L. Richard Peters of Amsterdam and Janice E. David Willis of Broadalbin. Also surviving her are her five loving grandchildren, Richard W. Susan Peters, Nancy Richard Bambara, Matthew Tammy Denman, William Denman, and Elizabeth Andrew Huisjen, as well as her six great grandchildren, Megan Bambara, Andrea Bambara, Shaun Krutz, Emily Denman, Kyle Denman, Jakob Denman, Luke Huisjen, Ellie Peters and baby due June 1 Huisjen. She is also survived by her brother's wife, Rose Ricci, as well as, many nephews, nieces and cousins. Mrs. Rosa was predeceased by her husband, her sister, Bernice Hug Shahda and brother Albert Ricci.
The family will receive friends at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 pm. At 4 pm there will be a time of celebration allowing family and friends an opportunity to share in reflection of Ruth's life. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Thomas Morrette at 11 am on Monday, October 27 at Sacred Heart Church in Gloversville. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be directed to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steel Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
