Obituary of Orin A. Mallinson

Orin A. Mallinson, 79, of Indian Road, Fort Plain passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Bassett Heath Care in Cooperstown as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Ridgewood, NJ August 24, 1929, son of the late Joha and Leona Agel Mallinson. He married the former Patricia Murphy of New Jersey on June 6, 1956. Together the couple resided in various townships in New Jersey before relocating to Fort Plain in 1970, where Orin brought his family, to begin his career of farming. Orin was a very talented carpenter, handyman and farmer. He built various horse wagons, and was all around handy with things that needed to be fixed or built. He enjoyed horseback riding, and driving draft horses and mini horses and was a founding member of the Eastern Regional Draft Horse Association. With this group, he and his family enjoyed taking many of the club's horse events including an overnight wagon trip. Orin was a kind and friendly individual who enjoyed spending time with his family and socializing with neighbors and friends. He will be sadly missed. His loving family includes his wife of over 52 years, Patricia J. Mallinson of Fort Plain, three daughters, Kim Luke Lester of Albuquerque, NM, Lynn Simon Barnett of Rochester and Heidi Mallinson Jon Pratt of Boulder, CO, one son, Sean J. Mallinson Sara Niccoli of Fonda, six grandchildren, Patrick and Hannah Lester of Albuquerque, NM, Ian, Joel and Christopher Barnett of Rochester and Olive Niccoli of Fonda, one sister-in-law, Carol LaVigne of Sanford, FL and a brother-in-law, Richard Murphy of New Hope, PA. Orin's family will receive relatives and friends Today, October 31, 2008, at their home, 625 Indian Road, Fort Plain, NY from 9:00AM to 9:00PM. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the United Methodist Church, Golf Course Road, Amsterdam, NY with Rev. Greg DeSalvatore, officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
