Obituary of Karen Pavlus

Karen Pavlus, 62, of Hickory Hill Road, Fort Plain, passed away, peacefully Friday, October 31, 2008 at Mt. Valley Hospice House in Gloversville following a 24 year battle with breast cancer. She was born in Amsterdam on January 25, 1946, a daughter of Edward Knoeck and the late Betty Lawson Knoeck. Karen was a life resident of the area and was of Roman Catholic faith. She married Edward Pavlus on October 2, 1965 at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Fort Plain. Together, the couple owned and operated Pavlus Orchards in Fort Plain where Karen was noted for her delicious homemade pies and other baked goods. In earlier years, Karen worked as a limousine driver as well as having her own Craft business out of her home, Karen's Country Crafts, in Fort Plain. She was an accomplished astronomer and, above all, a loving wife, mother and homemaker who enjoyed raising her sons who now carry on the tradition of Pavlus Orchards with their father. Her loving family includes her father Edward Knoeck of Glendale, AZ, her husband of over 43 years, Edward Pavlus of Fort Plain, two sons, Jeffrey and Thomas Pavlus of Fort Plain and one brother, John Knoeck of Glendale, AZ. In addition to her mother, Karen was predeceased by her son James Pavlus on July 25, 1985 and a brother, James Knoeck. There will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 3, 2008 at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain with Fr. John Roos as celebrant. Interment will be in Fort Plain Cemetery. The family invites relatives and friends to join them immediately following mass for a luncheon in the parish hall. Contributions in Karen's memory may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice House, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078 or to the Avon Foundation Walk for Breast Cancer, 1345 Avenue of the America's, New York, NY 10105. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY.
