Obituary of Hazel V. Garofalo

Hazel V. Garofalo, 98, passed away peacefully at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility in Gloversville on Wednesday, November 5, 2008. She was born on July 21, 1910 in Mayfield, the daughter of the late Nathan and Matilda Nichols Mortimer. She worked as a glove maker in Mayfield. On June 27, 1934 she married James Garofalo who predeceased her in 1986. Hazel loved to read, visit with friends and loved being with her family. She was a 30 year member of the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens and was a member of the Rebecca Lodge. She is survived by a daughter, Santa Lou Berard of Fultonville, a brother-in-law, Thomas Janet Garofalo of Johnstown, three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Hazel was predeceased by four brothers: Hiram Mortimer, DeWitt Mortimer, Homer Mortimer and William Mortimer; three sisters: Jennie Lawrence, Esther Mortimer and Myra Mortimer and a sister-in-law, Frances Garofalo. Family and friends are invited and may call Sunday, November 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A funeral service will be held Monday, November 10 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Bonnie Orth presiding. Interment will be at Union Rural Cemetery in Mayfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hazel's memory to the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens Center, 53 Church Street, Gloversville, 12078 or the FCRHCF, 847 Co. Hwy 122, Gloversville 12078.
