Obituary of Amelia B. Saunders

Mrs. Amelia "Emily" B. Saunders, age 86 of Gloversville passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home in Gloversville. She was born on November 10, 1921 in Gloversville, New York and was one of six children of the late Julia and Ladislav Bolebruch. Emily graduated from the Diploma School of Nursing at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville in 1945. She later went on to complete courses in nursing supervision and administration at Russell Sage College in Troy, in 1959 and 1960. In 1974 Emily completed the Family Planning Institute at Albany Medical College. In 1977 Emily became a Licensed Nurse Practitioner through the State University at Buffalo and the E. J. Meyer Hospital in Buffalo, NY. Mrs. Saunders worked at Nathan Littauer Hospital from 1945-1971 as a obstetrical nurse and supervisor. In 1972 she became employed by Amsterdam Memorial Hospital as a nurse manager and nurse practitioner in the hospital's family planning clinic until 1981 where she returned to Nathan Littauer Hospital as the nursing supervisor in the skilled nursing facility. Emily retired in June of 1999 from the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home. Mrs. Saunders was a member of St. Anthony's Church in Johnstown, NY, as well as a lifetime member of the Mohawk Valley District PTA, N.Y.S Nurses Association and the Nathan Littauer Hospital Alumni Association. Survivors include her son Robert M. Saunders Karen of Gloversville; a sister, Julia Bolebruch of Gloversville; four brothers, Frank Bolebruch, Lewis Bolebruch, Charles Bolebruch and John Bolebruch all of Gloversville; one grandson, Brad R. Saunders and one great-granddaughter, Maizy Elizabeth Saunders. Emily is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as several great nieces and nephews. Emily was predeceased by her husband Robert E. Saunders in 1996. They were married on December 31, 1948. The family will receive relatives and friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Thomas Morrette officiating. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the charity of one's choice.
