Obituary of Marian B. Alric

Mrs. Marian B. Alric, age 86, died Sunday, November 9, 2008 at her home at Dennie's Crossings, Gloversville, where she lived for most of her life. She was born on October 27, 1922 in Ephratah, NY, the daughter of the late Albert and Jennette Thompson Beard. She was educated in Ephratah schools and was a graduate of Johnstown High School. Over the years Marian worked for the Rationing Board, the Unemployment Board and she retired from the Fulton Montgomery Community College library. Family meant everything to Marian. Her love, dedication, enthusiasm as a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, favorite aunt and friend with special interests for: Proper mowing of acres of lawn; delivery of Meals on Wheels for over 20 years; updated family pictures for mantle and wall; thoughtful and unique gifts; regular presence in the second from the back pew as a longstanding member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church; enjoying family and friend visits, creating latch hook masterpieces; travels with dad, Aunt Ju and more recently with brother Albert; making jam and baking pies and jumbos; supporting her grief group; preparing Sunday and holiday meals; preserving the Family Reunions; requiring grace and the special Thanksgiving "What I'm thankful for" tradition; attending generations of school concerts, sporting events and theatrical productions; supporting family enterprises from greenhouse to Pickett Memorial; reuniting with classmates at her 70th Johnstown High School reunion; always there with an encouraging word and comforting shoulder. Marian was married on May 1, 1943 to Pierre L. Alric. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before Pierre's death on August 8, 1993. Survivors include five children: Carol Longo John, Pierre Alric Helen, Patricia Chase Douglas, Barbara Buske Douglas and Richard Alric Ellen; a brother, Albert Beard, Jr; many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Her brother Edward Beard and sister Barbara Heagle preceded her in death. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 12th with the Rev. Christopher Hamm officiating. Interment will take place at FernDale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the North Main Street United Methodist Church, 316 N. Main St; Gloversville or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
