Obituary of Emmajean Anderson

Emmajean Jean Lillian Kretser Anderson, 83, of Canajoharie went to be with the Lord at her home with her loving family by her side on Monday, November 17, 2008. Born on December 22, 1924 in St. Johnsville, she was the daughter of Madolyn Smith and Fred Kretser. She received her education in St. Johnsville and worked in her parent's restaurant business. Mrs. Anderson was also employed as a school bus driver, and at Templeton's Gloves and also at Beech-Nut Lifesavers. Her and her husband also owned and operated Anderson's gas station in Randall for many years. She married Kenneth Johnson in 1943 and out of this union, their daughter, Eileen was born. She then married Herbert Anderson on September 24, 1949 and their daughter, Cindy was born. They were married for nearly forty-five years residing in Randall, until his death in November 1993. Jean then moved to Arkell Center in Canajoharie. She was a member of the Randall Reformed Church. Jean was the matriarch of the family. Fun-loving and vivacious in spirit, she attended her grandchildren's athletic events and will be remembered as "Gram" to the many friends and family in the school community. Jean, her family and her extended families enjoyed many years camping at Canada Lake. Jean is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Eileen & Gerald Coddington of Fultonville and Cindy and Gary Eckerson of Whitesboro; four grandchildren, Tracy Tom Polte of Medford, MA, Shelly Paul Kayser of Amherst, NH, Scott Jen Friers of Amsterdam, and Jenny Quackenbush Brett Jones of Dobbs Ferry; four great grandchildren, Kenneth and Megan Polte of Medford, MA and Sarah and Jacob Kayser, of Amherst, NH; a sister and brother-in law, Phyllis and Joseph Doak of Montrose, CO; a brother-in-law, Robert Diefendorf of Fort Plain, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her four sisters, Velma Dygert, Beverly Lee, Winifred Wolcott and Barbara Diefendorf. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Jackson-Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville. Interment will immediately follow in Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Torres, Dr. Morrissey, Dr. Knudsen, the nursing staff at St. Mary's Hospital and Mountain Valley Hospice for the loving care given to Jean.
