Obituary of Jane V. Laychak
Jane V. Laychak, 93, of Scotia passed away peacefully at the Joan Nicole Prince Home on Saturday, November 22, 2008 surrounded by her family.
Jane was born in Amsterdam, NY on April 28, 1915. She was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Josephine Vertucci. She is survived by her daughter Carol Auriemma and her son -in-law Joseph Auriemma Sr. of Scotia; her beloved grandchildren Joseph Auriemma Jr. Nancy of Kingston NY and Kelly Opiela Scott of Scotia and her great grandchildren, Kira, Alex, Jared and Rachel. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Catherine St.Amour of Naples Fla., Vera Stangle, Marge Habla, Arthur Vertucci and Alfred Vertucci of Amsterdam as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members. She was predeceased by brothers and sisters Lena McCaffrey, Eleanor Clairmont, Susan Hermance, Marion Bellen, Gabriel Vertucci and Anthony Vertucci.
Jane was one of twelve children and her family was always the most important thing in her life. Her spirit would always be lifted by a short drive or a visit to her brothers and sisters in Amsterdam. During her illness, a phone call or visit from her loving family always brought a smile to her face. A devout Catholic, Jane was always praying for others. She never asked for anything for herself.
Jane's family is thankful for the love and support provided by her companion and personal aide Ruby; the staff of Hospice, especially Kathy, Mary and Kim; Dr. Ford and the staff and loving volunteers of the Joan Nicole Prince Home. A special thank you to a good friend and neighbor, Pat Bankert.
Services are Tuesday at 10:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church, East Main Street Amsterdam. Fr. John Medwid celebrant. Interment is in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Joan Nicole Prince Home or the East Glenville Fire Department both in care of the funeral home office Amsterdam 12010.
