Joel,
We have such good memories of the time when the Kaplan and Barnett kids were going to Guy Park Avenue School, then on to Junior High & High School...going to swim meets, etc.
Florence had such a positive impact on the Amsterdam community and she'll be missed by many.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family,
Bud & Marget

I was saddened to hear of the loss of your wife and mother. I have thought of her and your family often over the years. She was a loving and caring person and always made me feel welcome and comfortable whenever I was in your home. I feel fortunate that I had the opportunity to know her.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

It was a cold, upstate November day, the kind that brings winters breath down early on Amsterdam. Our soccer team had made the playoffs and was playing at the local high school field. With a cutting wind piercing the field, we played on deep into the second half. As the snowflakes began to fall, I looked up the hill to see my mom, shivering along the sidelines, rooting me on. That was the type of mother she was â?? supportive, encouraging and always there for all her children.
Although she never attended college, she was a voracious reader and lover of the arts. She could complete a NY Times crossword puzzle and answer the final Jeopardy question. Mom instilled a lifelong love of learning in all her children and was proud of all their academic and life achievements. A devoted Grandmother, she never missed sending a card and gift on their birthdays and holidays. She doted on them all, making sure to stay involved in their lives even from a distance.
Mom was a stubborn Hungarian, with a great sense of humor who was never afraid to voice her opinion. She was very aware both socially and politically. After we grew up and moved on, she became involved in my fatherâ??s business and became a successful part of his enterprises. Active in the community, she had a strong sense of faith and was an integral part of the Congregation Sons of Israel.
Mom took great care of my father for many years, spending 62 wonderful years together. In the end, he responded in kind, showing both love and devotion in her final days. She will be greatly missed by all.
