Obituary of Norman E. Gallup
Mr. Norman E. "Pops" Gallup, 87, of Mayfield, died November 28, 2008 at the home of his daughter.
Born September 22, 1921 in Wells, he was the son of the late David and Ruth Buyce Gallup. Mr. Gallup was educated in local schools and served in the Army during WWII. He had been employed at Mohasco Industries many years ago and also employed as a caretaker for a private residence in Speculator. Much of his life he worked in leather for Alvord's in Mayfield.
An avid outdoorsman, Norman enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening .He spent many years with family and friends at the family camp in Morehouseville He especially cherished time with his grandchildren and was a well known prankster with family and friends. As an additional hobby, Norman collected commemorative coins for many years. He was also a member of the D.A.V.
He is survived by his daughter, Norma Michael Kosowski of Whitesboro, NY; four brothers and sisters: Harold, Sherrill, Howard, Ralph, Marion, Florence, Lucille and Marjorie. Norman is also survived by his grandchildren: Michael Kosowski, Rosann Walsh, Jill Kosowski and Megan Kosowski, as well as great grandchildren: Ethan, Nolan and Wyatt. Additional survivors include nieces, nephews and in-laws: Harry and Ida Williams, Helen Van Allen and Fred Williams. Mr. Gallup was pre-deceased by his wife, Anna Williams Gallup, whom he married September 28, 1944 and by brothers: Donald, Joseph, George, Gordon and Rosco and sisters, Evelyn and Ruth.
Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon on Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 11 am to noon. Burial will be in Mayfield Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield.
