Dear Jacob and the entire Sammons Family,

Jake, Jamie and the rest of the Sammons family,
I had the great honor to work side by side with Ernie the last 6 years. We truly shared some great times. He taught me more than anyone has in life and I will remember him always. We always shared stories of our kids and always seemed one of us tried to brag a little more about their kids that the other, but we always listened to each other. I will miss Ernie's smile, his laugh, and craziness. There wasn't a day that he didn't make me laugh. Someday Ernie we will shoot that BB gun again and laugh as hard as we can. I'll miss you Hutch

My son Ian and I were so sorry to hear of Ernieâ??s passing. Iâ??ve known Ernie and your family for a very long time and I've seen Ernie as a very fun, hilarious and sometimes crazy kid who turned into one of the most professionally respected and proud Dads and Iâ??ve ever seen. Ernie positively glowed when talking about his kids for whom he did everything and who Iâ??ve had the pleasure of knowing as FFCS students. He will be so missed and if thereâ??s anything you need or I can do, consider it done. Iâ??ll bet brother Jake was right there at the gates, and they are both having a great time together in a better place. We will all miss him, but should remember that he is not in pain any more. EJ was a straight-shooter.
My dealings with him were on a professional level:
Police officer-journalist.
A rare breed, he understood both of our roles. Out of that grew respect on both sides.
