Obituary of Margaret G. Hughes

Margaret G. Hughes, 96, of Catherine St., Yorktown Heights, NY, formerly a resident of Amsterdam and Canajoharie, NY, passed away Monday evening December 22, 2008 at her residence. Born in Canajoharie, NY on October 29, 1912 a daughter of Henry and Margaret Maher Groff. She was a Canajoharie High School Graduate and was a graduate of the former Johnstown Business School in Johnstown, NY. Margaret lived in Canajoharie and Amsterdam NY until moving to Yorktown Heights in 2004 to be near her daughter. Margaret was a founding member of the Montgomery County ARC and was a parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Hughes-Melamed Gene of Peekskill, NY One niece, Linda Freysinger, Four nephews, Alan Van Wie, Charles Van Wie, Michael Hughes and Thomas Hughes. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday December 27, 2008 at 11:00A.M. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Main St., Amsterdam with Father John Medwid as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery County ARC, Fultonville, NY 12072.
