Obituary of Rita A. Bacon

Mrs. Rita A. Fitzpatrick Bacon, age 88 of Gloversville, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville. She was born April 24, 1920 in Malone, NY, the daughter of the late John and Mayme Johnson Fitzpatrick. A 1938 graduate of Franklin Academy, Rita later became a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at Sunmount Hospital in Tupper Lake during World War II. She moved to Gloversville following her marriage in 1947. In Gloversville she worked at the Getman Memorial Home until she retired at the age of 72. Rita was a member of Sacred Heart Church of Gloversville. She loved to bake and enjoyed sewing for her family. She is survived by five children: Patrick J. Bacon Lori of Gloversville, Rita A. Bacon of Annapolis, MD; John E. Bacon Rebecca, Lori J. Strait Jeffrey and William C. Bacon Donna of Gloversville; three siblings: William Fitzpatrick Joanne of Malone, Eleanor Poirier Donat of N. Bangor, NY and Thomas J. Fitzpatrick Linda of Miami, FL; eight grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Rita was married on May 24, 1947 to Hugh W. Bacon who died December 24, 1979. She was also preceded in death by her brothers John Fitzpatrick and James Fitzpatrick; and her sisters Doris Johnson and Ida Matteson. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Sacred Heart Church, 189 Kingsboro Ave; Gloversville, with the Rev. Thomas Morrette officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at Broadalbin Union Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078 or to St. Judes Research Hospital, P.O. Box 3704, Memphis, TN 38103. Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville.
