Obituary of Helen M. Fryzel
Mrs. Helen M. Fryzel, 91 years old, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. She had been a resident of the Wilkinson Facility for the past two years. Mrs. Fryzel was born September 16, 1917 in Amsterdam, the daughter of John and Geneva Willetts Geib and had resided in the Hagaman area since 1948. She was a graduate of the former St. Mary's Institute and of the former Reynold's Business School, both in Amsterdam.
Mrs. Fryzel was employed by the former Chalmer's Knitting Mill and by the former Mohawk Carpet Mills where she worked in the shipping office and also as a Key Punch Operator. She then worked as a Substance Abuse Counselor at St. Mary's Hospital retiring in 1989.
Mrs. Fryzel was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church of Amsterdam and its Senior organization. She had served as Eucharistic Minister and Lector for St. Mary's and for the Auriesville Shrine. Mrs. Fryzel was a former member and past president of the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Dept. Aux.; active in the local and national PTA; a first aid instructor; served on the Board of Elections; volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital and enjoyed Bowling and Figure Skating.
Helen married Adolf Fryzel December 31, 1941. He died November 29, 1982. She is survived by her son Paul Evelyn Fryzel of Hagaman, her daughter Patricia J. Richard/deceased Valikonis of Greer, S.C., her brother Edward Geib of Garden City, S.C., three grandchildren: Denise Edward Calloway of Simpsonville, S.C., Susan Chad Webber of Simpsonville and Richard T, Shannon Valikonis, Jr. of Greer, S.C., seven great grandchildren: Christian and Adam Calloway, Nicole and Kingsley Webber and Thomas, Ashley and Michael Valikonis, two step grandchildren: Susan Stock and James Gordon. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held 8:30am Thursday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15am at St. Mary's Church with The Rev. John Medwid as Celebrant. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 until 7:00pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery.
