Obituary of Evelyn E. Trippodo

Evelyn E. Trippodo, 89, of Gloversville, went home in the arms of the Lord on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 4, 1927, in Haywarden, Iowa, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Deanna McCormick Walker. Once Evelyn and her family moved to the area, she graduated from Northville High School, class of 1944. She went on to attend Sienna College where she graduated with her associate's degree with high honors in theology, class of 1965. Evelyn and Chuck ran the Manor House Restaurant in Gloversville from the 1960s to early 1970s. Evelyn loved her Catholic faith; she was a student of the Bible. She was an active member of the previous Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and recently Church of the Holy Spirit. Evelyn served as Eucharistic Minister, was a member of the Rosary Society and Holy Name Society. For many years she was a religious education teacher, taught Bible study class and not only was she a mentor to many of her students, but Evelyn would act as a sponsor for many students who were making their confirmation. Evelyn was also a member for 30 years with the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home Auxiliary. Evelyn married her loving husband, Charles Trippodo, who passed away December 30, 2001; together they loved to travel to the west coast of Florida, but her favorite trip was a trip to Israel. She was an artist who loved to paint, loved to sing and had the best sense of humor. Often you could find Evelyn enjoying the outdoors; she loved swimming in the Great Sacandaga, watching the clouds go by, enjoying the sun and trees and frolicking in the creek. Most of all, Evelyn's greatest pride, love and joy was her family; they were her biggest fans. Evelyn will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her loving children: sons, Ronald Trippodo and Larry (Joyce) Trippodo; daughters, Susan (Wayne) McNeil and Barbara (James Jr.) Burton; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Evelyn was predeceased by her son, Robert Trippodo; eight brothers and two sisters; and her daughter-in-law, Suzie (the Dive) Schumacher-Trippodo. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 3, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit, 149 S. Main St., Gloversville, with Father Donald Czelusniak as celebrant. Calling hours to which the family will receive relatives and friends will be held at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Burial will take place in the spring at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.
