Obituary of Beverly M. Costello

Mrs. Beverly M. Allen Costello, age 89, died Monday, January 12, 2009 at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Amsterdam. She was born May 11, 1919 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Young Allen. A 1937 graduate of Gloversville High School, Beverly resided in Gloversville most of her life. She had also lived in California, New Jersey and Connecticut where she worked as a live-in nanny. Mrs. Costello was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church and a former member of the 55 Plus Senior Citizens Club, both of Gloversville. She was past treasurer of the Forest Hill Towers Tennants Association and also lived at Arkell Hall in Canajoharie for four years. Survivors include four children, Carol Peterson Jerry of Johnstown, Richard Bowers Sandy of Gloversville, Sharon Park of Guilderland and Janice Costello of Northville; a sister, Shirley Hamel of Prescott Valley, AZ; ten grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, many great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Beverly was preceded in death by her two sons, John M. Costello, Jr. and James E. Costello; her two brothers, Harry Allen and Richard Allen and her sister, Barbara Fraker. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Prayer Service which will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 15th at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. The Rev. Thomas Morrette will officiate. There will be no calling hours. Interment took place April 27 at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, 149 S. Main Street, Gloversville, or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
