Obituary of Evelyn Carone Catania

Mrs. Evelyn Carone Catania died Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home where she resided for several days. She was 98 years of age. She was born in Mellizzano, Province of Benevento, Italy on September 30, 1910, the daughter of the late Joseph and Modestina Rossi Carone. She lived in Gloversville since coming from Italy at the age of 13. She had resided at the Pine View Commons Adult Home in Johnstown for nearly the past year. For many years Evelyn was a co-owner of the former Cara Lee Bridals in Gloversville. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church. She was married on September 8, 1935 to Louis Catania who died August 3, 1988. Survivors include her daughter, Cara Petrie and grandchildren Zachary Petrie and Amanda Petrie, all of Gloversville. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert L. Catania, Sr., her brother, Victor Carone and her sister, Rose Viscosi. A private prayer service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 30, 2009 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville. The Very Reverend Donald Czelusniak officiated. Entombment will take place in the springtime in the family mausoleum at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the charity of your choice.
