Obituary of Giovanna Anella Plisinski

Giovanna was born in Amsterdam, New York on December 14, 1924 to the parents Remo and Carmella Martuscello Puglia. She passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on Sunday, March 5, 2017 in East Lyme, Connecticut. She married Edward H. Plisinski on October 6, 1946 in St. Michaels Church in Amsterdam, New York. She and her husband "Eddie" had two children, Stephen and John. Giovanna and her family moved to Rotterdam, New York in 1957 where they raised their two sons. She worked for Grand Union Supermarkets where she enjoyed serving neighbors for 35 plus years, and retired in 1995. Previously she worked at General Electric as a welder on cathode ray tubes and at the Kresge Department Store in downtown Schenectady. Giovanna rarely traveled far, but a highlight of her life was a visit to Italy and the town of Pisciotta, staying in the house where her mother was born. She also traveled to Chennai, India where her son Stephen was working overseas, and often talked fondly of the Indian friends she made there. She also enjoyed excursions around the United States and Canada. Giovanna is survived by her son Stephen E. Plisinski and his wife Susan of Burlington, VT and son John E. Plisinski and his wife Joyce of Gales Ferry, CT. She is also survived by two grandchildren Joshua Plisinski of Worchester, MA and Sarah Plisinski of Gales Ferry, CT. She also survived by her brothers Carman Puglia of Frederick, MD and Frank Puglia of Tribes Hill, NY and sisters Felicia Persico of Amsterdam, New York and Antonia Van Skiver of Gloversville, New York. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward H. Plisinski who passed away on April 22, 1997. She is also predeceased by two sisters, Rose Giardino and Mary Skotarczak. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday March 11, 2017 at 11:00AM at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 52 Cornell St., Amsterdam, NY with Father O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery where Giovanna will be buried next to her husband. There are no calling hours. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in honor of Giovanna A. Plisinski.
