Obituary of Virginia V. Johnsen
Virginia V. Johnsen, 95, of Gloversville, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Wesley Health Care Center, Saratoga Springs, NY.
Born on April 18, 1922 in Little Falls, NY, she was the daughter of Karl and Walvigh "Valerie" Marceckia Dalmata. In addition to her parents, Virginia was predeceased by her brothers, Walter, Bernard, Stanley, John Edward "Eddie" and Karl Phillip "Phil" Dalmata and sister, Victoria Dalmata, She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Catherine Dalmata and Helen Dalmata.
After moving to Gloversville at a young age, Virginia attended Gloversville schools, graduating from Gloversville High School in 1940.
She married Howard W. Johnsen on October 10, 1943. They lived in Gloversville for most of their adult lives until his passing on January 29, 2001. Virginia also resided at Kingsboro Towers for 11 years. She had many good friends there, and was active in the tenant association. She enjoyed spending time visiting with her friends and participating in other activities with them.
Virginia and Howard were married for 57 years and had three children: Margaret and Daniel Towne, Sr; John and Michele Johnsen and Jacquelyn and Scott Wright. In addition to being a homemaker, Virginia worked in the manufacturing industry. Over the years she worked for glove factories, General Electric, Decca Records and Knox Gelatin.
In addition to her children Virginia is survived by her grandchildren, Daniel Jr. (Kathleen), Michael (Ambyr), Benjamin (Jennifer) Towne, Ashley Serfis (Kurt Bourgault), Brittany Ramos, Zachary Johnsen and Aiden and Gannon Wright. She also has four great-granddaughters, Mackenzie, Emily, Mya and Isabella Towne, and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation was performed at ParkView Crematorium, Schenectady. There will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 24 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 153 S. Main St; Gloversville, with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak as celebrant. Burial of the cremated remains will follow at Ferndale Cemetery, 545 N. Perry St; Johnstown.
Memorial Contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Wesley Foundation, 131 Lawrence St; Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
The family would like to thank the staff at Wesley Health Care Center, Glens Falls Hospital Pyrn Pavillion 4th floor staff and Community Hospice of Saratoga for the care given to Virginia.
