Obituary of C. Ruth Townsend

Mrs. C. Ruth Townsend, 83 years old, of McDonald Drive, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. She had been a patient at River Ridge for the past year. Mrs. Townsend was born August 12, 1925 in Amsterdam, the daughter of Willis and Ada Howcroft Curtiss and was a life long resident of Ft. Johnson. She was employed by Key Bank as a Teller for many years and then by the Amsterdam Printing Company. Mrs. Townsend was an active member of the United Methodist Church. She was a member of The Eastern Star and was an avid reader. Ruth married Albert H. Townsend in 1946. He died in 1992. She is survived by two sons: James A. Pat Townsend of Gloversville and Gary C. Donna Townsend of Galway, her brother Robert Curtiss of Ft. Johnson, her brother-in-law Louis Townsend of Ft. Johnson, her sister-in-law Islay Townsend of Utica, her grandchildren Matthew and Heather Marie Townsend, nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to give a special acknowledgement to their Uncle Louie for the special attention and care that he gave to Ruth. A graveside funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, March 20, 2009, at Fairview Cemetery in Amsterdam, with The Rev. Gregory B. DeSalvatore officiating. There will be no calling hours.
