Obituary of Edward F. Herba

Edward F. Herba, Jr. 74, of Gloversville passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at his home. Born on February 21, 1943 in Amsterdam, he was a son of the late Edward F. and Josephine Jablonski Herba. A lifelong resident of the area, Ed attended local school, graduating from Perth High School; he also attended an apprentice program through G.E. Together Ed and his Wife, Susan, owned and operated Herba Sand & Gravel, a business they started in 1969. Ed was an avid outdoors man; he loved to fish, hunt and travel; especially to one of his favorite spots, The Adirondacks. He was a NYS Big Buck Club Measurer and a member of the Owl Pond Club. Ed exemplified the true entrepreneurial spirit by using his inventive and engineering skills and talents to single handily build his rock crushing, washing and screening plant from parts acquired from all corners of the U.S. In addition he came up with many innovative ideas for specialty concrete forms, and helped in accounting & book keeping for Guardian Concrete Products. Ed will be best remembered in the business world by his customers for his honesty and integrity. Ed was an animal lover, who especially loved his dog, Rosie and cat, Bart. In his own quiet way he enjoyed spending time with his boys and his grandchildren who mean the world to him. Survivors include his wife, Susan Steyaert Herba; sons, Chip Herba (Angela), Chris Herba (Kate) and Dr. Matthew Herba (Zuleida); brother, Joseph Herba (Mary); grandchildren, Carlie Ann, Ava Rose, Lillian, Zeke and Leona. Several nieces, nephews and cousin also survive. Besides his parents, Ed was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Voss. A memorial service for Ed will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 4pm at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam.
