Obituary of Jane G. Ahrens

Jane G. Ahrens, 80, formerly of State Hwy 161, Amsterdam, passed away Thursday March 19th, 2009 at the River Ridge Living Center LLC. in Amsterdam. Born in Belfast, North Ireland on May 5th, 1928 a daughter of Robert J. and Sarah McClure Gregg. She was educated in Ireland and came to the United States in the late 1940's. She lived for a time in Johnstown, NY before moving to Amsterdam. Jane was one of the founding members of G.A.V.A.C. and rode on the first Ambulance Call in Amsterdam. She also at one time was on the Board of Directors for the Montgomery County S.P.C.A. She was an active member of the Gray Lady's and the Credit Women International Mrs. Ahren's was known in the area during the 1970's as the "One Lady Jane". She was an active member of the United Methodist Church on Golf Course Rd., in Amsterdam. Mrs. Ahrens was employed as an Investment Broker for over 35 years for the former First Albany Bank now Wachovia Securities at locations in Johnstown, Amsterdam and Albany, NY. Jane married her husband Robert A. Ahrens on August 4th, 1951 he passed away on February 28, 2002. She is survived by her dear son, Thomas M. Ahrens and his wife Kathy of Perth, NY. Two brothers, Robert J. Gregg and Thomas O. Gregg of County Antrum, Northern Ireland. One sister, Elizabeth Healey of Fountain, Colorado. Two beloved grandchildren Robert and Sarah Ahrens of Perth, NY. She was predeceased by her son Gregory J. Biasini on December 3rd, 2002. A Celebration of Jane's Life will take place on Monday March 23rd, 2009 at 11:00A.M. at the United Methodist Church, Golf Course Rd., Amsterdam with Rev. Greg DeSalvatore presiding. Inurnment will be in Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday March 22nd, 2009 from 2:00 to 5:00P.M. at the funeral home.
